I am the English as a second language teacher for Oak Park Preparatory and Oak Park Freshman Institute. My educational background includes seventeen years of classroom teaching experience, Bachelors degrees in Mass Communications and Media Arts and English, and Masters degrees in Teaching and Leadership and English as a second language. As an educator, I value and will always be a life long learner.
I am originally from Chicago, Illinois and taught there for nine years. In 2009, my husband received a great career opportunity to work as the Director of Authentic’s for the Detroit Tigers. Although I have been in Michigan for five years, I am still exploring all of wonders and opportunities. On August 6, 2014 I was blessed with a baby boy, Jackson, who is quickly becoming spoiled rotten.
I love to listen to music, especially the 80’s and early 90’s such as Bon Jovi and Journey. I am an avid science fiction and horror genre fan whether it is a book, movie, or TV show.
I hope for my students to have great opportunities and make positive life choices as well. Oak Park offers a true learning community where students are encouraged to lead and collaborate in the 21st century world they will be entering. In order to accomplish this task, my instruction will include challenging activities with meaningful experiences based on individual’s strengths.
My classroom offers a climate where students are encouraged to take risks, and learn from mistakes. This is all part of the learning process. My classroom offers students an opportunity to achieve his/her highest potential and where parents and the community are welcome to contribute to the collaborative effort. If you are ever interested in sharing one of your passions or interests, you are always welcome to communicate your expertise in my classroom. I look forward to working with you this school year. Let’s have a successful school year and GO TIGERS!
